Gary Anderson: my son will cheer on MVG!

GARY ANDERSON will have every member of the Dartan Army cheering him on for the Premier League finals night – but NOT his young son Tai!

The Flying Scotsman faces Phil Taylor in a crunch second semi-final at the O2 tonight (Thurs) as he bids to defend his title.

But Ando has revealed that his little boy Tai will be cheering on the green machine Michael van Gerwen when they get to the London showdown.

He said: “It’s a bit gutting to say the least that my own son loves Michael so much that he wants him to win the Premier League.

“It will be interesting to see who he shouts for if we both make the final. It will be way past his bedtime. So perhaps if he wants Michael to win, he’ll just get sent to bed!

“Michael always takes time out with Tai when he sees him. It just goes to show that Michael is a really top guy and Tai is very fond of him.

“People have always taken my rivalry with Michael far too seriously. Make no mistake, when we’re on the oche, I’m out to make Michael’s life a misery. I’ve been sent down here to ruin his chances of winning anything.

“But off the stage Michael is a decent bloke and we get own fine, there’s no vendetta, feud or anything like people like to make up.

“That may well all change if Tai supports him on Thursday night though. It will make me all the more determined to show Michael – and my boy – that I’m the true Premier League champion.

“I’ve got to make the final first and so has Michael. We’ve both got huge semi-final clashes. It’s hard to call a winner in my mind. I wouldn’t want to put my mortgage on anyone.

“But this is how I like it, it all comes down to one night. I’ve had my ups and downs in the league whereas Michael and Phil have taken all the publicity and Sky Sports have built them up throughout the last 15 weeks.

“However now that means nothing. It’s just about Thursday night and I’m ready for it.”

Anderson also admits that’s he starting to enjoy the bright lights of London having now won two World Championships and Premier Leagues in the big smoke.

He added: “I’m starting to quite like London.

“It’s a bit busy for a old man like myself with everybody rushing about and I get easily confused these days.

“Sightseeing isn’t my thing either, but the inside of the darts halls seem to work alright.

“I’ve won a couple of World Championships at the Alexandra Palace, a couple of Premier League titles in London and I’ve even managed to get a couple of awards at the Dorchester Hotel!

“That’s not bad for a wee guy from Musselburgh. Hopefully I can leave on Friday morning with another bit of silver.”
