ADRIAN LEWIS covered Phil Taylor in kisses after beating Michael van Gerwen to see England retain their World Cup title last night.
Jackpot beat Dutch World No.1 van Gerwen 4-1 in the deciding match of a thrilling final in Frankfurt after a see-saw ending.
It looked set to go to the Dutch as Lewis toiled but he saved his best until last to beat the all-conquering MVG.
Lewis said: “MVG got the hump with me because I was giving it large with my celebrations. But Michael does that every week.
“I had to kiss Phil, it was relief. I had struggled in the final but I did enough to win. It’s so good playing and winning this with Phil.”
Taylor said: “I’m so excited by this win. I’ve won the lot in this game but that was nail-biting when he missed to many darts to win it. But Adrian did great.”
Taylor kicked off the final by beating van Gerwen 4-3 before Barney levelled it up with the same result over Lewis.
The final tipped in favour of the Dutch with a 4-2 win in the doubles as Lewis began to struggle. Once again Taylor got England back in contention by beating RVB to set up a winner-takes-all final match between Lewis and MVG.
